North of Lyon, a small provincial town located on the banks of the Saône. Capital of the Maconnais, Mâcon is the southernmost city of the towns of Burgundy. A dynamic city full of charm. The pedestrianized city center surrounded by colorful old buildings as well as the Saône quays are very lively, especially in fine weather.

The National Wine Fair is held in the spring at the Parc des Expositions, attracting many visitors to the region.

Bike

Mâcon is an ideal city for cycling with 30 kilometers of cycle routes in addition to the 3.6 kilometers of lanes in the meeting areas.

Mâcon is linked to the city of Tournus via the blue route , and to Chalon-sur-Saône via the green route .

Train

Mâcon is very well served thanks to the Paris , Lyon , Marseille line . It also desert the city of Dijon .

Boat

The city is also accessible by boat via the Saône , the Rhône and the Mediterranean Sea !

Indeed, Mâcon welcomes 70,000 tourists thanks to the cruise ships .

Most of the shops are located near the town hall. It is also the historic center of the city with historical monuments ( Saint-Vincent cathedral , Saint-Pierre church , etc.) as well as  museums .

  • Summer Struck  is a free festival devoted to the arts and music which takes place every summer from the end of June to the end of August throughout the city (concerts, shows, cinema, sports theater…).
    • The Crescent Jazz Club organizes its own jazz festival for three days.
    • The Les Nuits d’Été de Mâcon  festival offers free classical music concerts.
  • La Cave à Musique offers a special outdoor program called Aperitifs in the courtyard.
  • The city is also a breeding ground for musical groups.

Religious monuments

Mâcon has many religious sites including Vieux-Saint-Vincent . Located in the city center, this 11th century cathedral is listed as a historical monument.

Culinary heritage

Among the specialties of Mâcon, we find the andouillette mâconnaise , eggs in meurette or  grattons . The Mâconnais ideal is a meringue cake filled with butter cream. The Mâconnaise wafer  is a very fine waffle rolled into a cigarette.

The town is surrounded by a 5,000 ha vineyard and produces 49 million bottles including Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé .

The e Mâconnais  or Chevreton Macon  is a goat cheese benefiting from AOC. The Mâconnais and Beaujolais Saint Vincent wine competition takes place every year in January in Mâcon. This competition is open to all winegrowers and cooperative cellars in the districts of Mâcon and Villefranche-sur-Saône.

The Charolais region , to the west of Mâcon, is known for its Charolais cows with white coats. La Bresse , to the east of Mâcon is known for its white poultry benefiting from an AOC.
